Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues creates a captivating and fascinating ballet that summons magic, incantation and the spirits of nature. A flamboyant and joyful fresco, anchored in the need to rethink our connection to life.

“Encantado” in Spanish means enchanted, amazed, bewitched. But the “encantados” also designate mystical entities protective of nature which belong to African-American traditions and spirituality. The “encantados”, animated by unknown forces, move between sky and earth, in jungles, on rocks, in fresh and salt waters to transform them into sacred places. In a Brazil increasingly affected by deforestation and the destruction of ecosystems, it is these magical and mystical forces that Lia Rodrigues summons to the stage. Eleven male and female dancers take over the colorful carpet of fabrics covering the stage to embody jubilant characters. They take us into a moving and polymorphous landscape, a captivating, sensual and dizzying dance.
Created by this committed and internationally recognized choreographer, Lia Rodrigues' company has been based in the Maré favela in Rio since 2004 with the aim of democratizing access to art for all those who live in a state of vulnerability. Thanks to a European tour, we are happy to welcome for the first time to the Grand R, this artist with powerful, committed and sincere creations.
