Points of interest
1. Trailhead
Departure from the parking lot of the Saint-Pierre des Clouzeaux church square.
2. St. Peter's Church
The church dates from the 7th century. On January 1948, XNUMX, one of the bell tower windows fell off and fell into the church choir. Following this incident, the bells were installed on an original frame outside. The Saint-Pierre church has since been one of the few sanctuaries in the Vendée that does not have a bell tower.
3. La Proutière
Observe the beautiful restored barn.
4. Tinouze stream
The Tinouze stream is a natural watercourse of 5.08 km. It takes its source in the commune of Aubigny-les-Clouzeaux and flows into the Ornay at the level of the commune of Venansault.
5. Presumed location of General Haxo's grave
On Thursday, March 20, 1794, Nicolas Haxo, Brigadier General of the French Revolution, died assassinated at Les Clouzeaux while he had been pursuing the Vendée leader François de Charette for several days through the Basse-Vendée. Local tradition explains that a juniper was planted on the site of his tomb, but it was destroyed by lightning at the beginning of the XNUMXth century.
6. Domaine de la Gautronniere
Stately home, linked to a farm, built around 1550-1560. It is characteristic of Vendée dwellings from the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century. The dwelling has monumental fireplaces adorned with cut-out leather cartouches, and painted beams. It has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments since 1995. Private property, it is now used as a reception venue for weddings, seminars and events.
7. La Rochette
Observe the 1908th century Château de la Rochette (private property) and its pond. This was built in XNUMX to replace an old XNUMXth century dwelling. All that remains of the latter is the double-entrance porch opening onto a square courtyard and a door integrated into the current castle.
8. Quarry of the Vines
The old Vignes quarry has been transformed into a water reserve for the Vendée. The perimeter of the old quarry has been converted into a space for leisure and walking (open-air theatre, discovery trails, belvederes, agora).
