The Italian theater remains a place of live performance used for the cultural programming of the city, the national stage of Grand, R and also local associations
In January 1805, the plan approved by the Emperor provided for a “comedy” in the center of the city… but at the expense of the municipality. For lack of means, the Italian theater was not inaugurated until 1845, on the site of the barracks of the first empire. It replaces a temporary auditorium, housed in the halls since 1811. Like other neoclassical buildings in Yon, the theater features a peristyle with columns and pilasters on the facade supporting an entablature and a triangular pediment. Inside, its Italian-style room, built of wood, is richly decorated. In 1888, the balconies were decorated with comedy masks, garlands of flowers and musical instruments. The coffered ceiling alternates representations of the Muses and bouquets of flowers.
