Nesmy Castle Park opens its doors to the public!

The 47-hectare Nesmy Castle Park was designed in 1842 by the Angevin landscaper André Leroy on the remains of an XNUMXth-century estate. This landscaped park is distinguished by its original and coherent character, typical of XNUMXth-century parks. It includes a hydraulic complex of five ponds, designed by the Bühler brothers, as well as a belt of rare tree species.

The park offers several remarkable elements:

The English-style park: Although seemingly natural at first glance, this park is meticulously designed, with cones of view converging towards the castle. These perspectives, currently being restored, create an illusion of depth, with the spaces narrowing as one moves away from the center.

The hydraulic network: This ingenious system connects the five ponds via canals and overflows. The ponds, which serve decorative, defensive, and utilitarian purposes, also produced Nesmy's first electricity thanks to a turbine installed on the last pond.

The Botanical Park: This garden is home to a rich collection of rare species, such as bald cypresses, redwoods, tulip trees, cedars of Lebanon, and Himalayan weeping pines. These carefully arranged trees enrich the park's views and contribute to the escapist atmosphere. Italian-style buildings, such as the outbuildings, the chapel, and the Belle-Croix farm, add to the harmony of the setting.

The grounds of Nesmy Castle are a true fusion of history, nature, and innovation. It is also accessible upon request for group visits and associations. Furthermore, it is fully accessible to people with disabilities, allowing everyone to enjoy its beauty.

Open for heritage days, garden and park events in autumn.
