Located in La Roche-sur-Yon, in the heart of Vendée, The Extraordinary Vegetable Garden lives up to its name. This unique place invites you on a true botanical and vegetable journey, where curiosity, wonder and transmission combine for a fun and sensory discovery of the plant world.
Conceived as a living space, this site 7 hectares : combines themed gardens, collections of unusual plants, participatory experiences and moments of conviviality. Here, we don't just come to observe, but to feel, taste, experience and learn…while having fun!
Founded in 1995, the Extraordinary Vegetable Garden was born out of a project to conserve cucurbits and promote the Pays des Achards. From the outset, it has attracted gardening and living enthusiasts thanks to its educational vocation and unique plant collection.
In 2014, then threatened with closure, it was taken over by the Estille Group, a committed player in the social and solidarity economy. A new dynamic is being triggered: the number of visitors doubles, and the Vegetable Garden takes on a new lease of life by combining social integration, seed conservation, environmental education and territorial animation.
Since 2019, it has been located on the Beautour site, in La Roche-sur-Yon, with a completely redesigned scenographic route, co-constructed with Thierry Rétif (creator for Puy du Fou and Parc Astérix). The result: a magical immersion for all ages!
The Extraordinary Vegetable Garden is a factory of shared memories : with family, friends, class or colleagues. We discover:
- Un bizarretum, where the most astonishing plants challenge our benchmarks,
- A vegetable library, rich in knowledge and rare seeds,
- Un experimental vegetable garden and market gardening area to learn by putting hands in the soil,
- A mini farm, exotic garden, tunnel of giant tomatoes and squash,
- workshops, guided tours and activities all season.
Beyond its playful nature, the Extraordinary Vegetable Garden is a actor committed to the futureBy saving forgotten varieties, promoting rare food plants and passing on simple actions, it helps raise public awareness of current environmental issues.
