The Prefecture is extended by a French-style park, surrounded by Napoleonic railings, with topiary boxwood and large lawns.
The Place de la Préfecture, today the François Mitterrand garden, is surrounded by stone houses whose frames and balconies aim to enhance the Prefecture. Large cedars and thuyas combine to bring grandeur to this garden. The bicentennial sculpture made by Jean-Pierre Viot finds its place there, it symbolizes the emergence and development of the new town, with, in the center, 200 enamelled lava plates, colored differently according to the names carried by the city: La Roche-sur-Yon, Napoléon, Bourbon-Vendée ...
