In 2016, Alexandre Balcaen founded Adverse publishing: starting from comics, he developed a catalogue without barriers, weaving thematic and aesthetic bridges between disciplines from the works.

Often close to the artist's book or visual poetry, Adverse's publications open up spaces for experimentation and reinvention of our relationship to writing, images and their relationships.

The exhibition recapitulates and analyzes the journey undertaken, highlighting both Adverse's commitment to craftsmanship and independent production, and the coherence of a collection now boasting 70 books and almost as many authors. This represents a bold and diverse approach, further enriched by works and formats specifically designed for the museum space by some fifteen invited artists. Finally, it presents around forty unique books created by students of the School of Art during Alexandre Balcaen's residency, reflecting his own relationship to publishing.
