Our daughters revealed, rebirth of a work

This exhibition-dossier is devoted to the restoration of the work Our Daughters by Amélie Beaury-Saurel (1848-1924), an artist to whom the museum has dedicated a temporary exhibition Our Scouts from July 21 to October 21, 2023.

Our Daughters is a work that entered the museum's collections in 1905 thanks to a donation from Alphonse de Rothschild. Educational and pedagogical, the exhibition provides an accessible approach to the various interventions necessary for the restoration of a fragile work due to the nature of the materials and previous restorations that have altered its readability. It offers all types of visitors the opportunity to explore the different stages of a complex protocol. Restoring a work is not just about repairing the ravages of time; it is also a way to deepen understanding of it, shed light on its history, and ensure its transmission for future generations.
